This Etonian-inspired shawl was first available through the 2008 Year of Lace Subscription Club. The pattern was inspired by a shawl I purchased in Estonia. The central motif is a sprig of leaves, topped by a flower bud. The shawl is edged at top and bottom by a scalloped lace edge.

This shawl was originally planned for Nancy’s book, Knitted Lace of Estonia, but space was tight. Now, it is available from the Wooly West. The central heart motif was designed in the 1930’s in Haapsalu, Estonia where it decorated a shawl that was given to the film diva. This modern pattern is like ones knit in Estonia today.

This triangular lace shawl, knit from the neck down, is an interesting shape to knit and to wear. The pattern is adapted from an Estonian lace knitting book and, as it is easy to remember, perfect for a take along knitting project.
