The Wooly West opened for business in 1980. I had recently
returned from time abroad in weaving school in Sweden and
working as a nanny in France and knew it was time to settle
down and do something serious. I never realized how serious
it would get or how long it would last! I chose knitting
as a primary focus, because I loved the portability of it
(as opposed to weaving) and realized that knitting was accessible
to everyone, the tools are, actually, few and the basic
skills are easy to teach and to learn. Over the years, The
Wooly West has encouraged more folks to knit than I ever
thought possible.
My goal for the Wooly West has always been to offer fine
natural fiber yarns, classic and traditional patterns, useful
knitting tools and expert instruction to my customers. The
retail store was sold in June of 2000 and now is focusing
on mail order. Looking ahead, there will be (at least) an
annual catalog and a web site with updates as often as possible.
The Wooly West specializes in small projects, especially
socks, and the patterns, yarn, and tools to achieve them
with pleasure.
The Wooly West has always offered unique patterns and
yarns. From one of the first shops in the USA to carry true
Shetland yarn to sock yarn imported from Wales, I've tried
to offer 'real' wool and great colors for projects to make
any knitter proud. Now I have a collection of yarns I am
devoted to and plan to add more as I find them. I also am
offering patterns created by me, and also patterns from
Utah designers as well as others throughout the country.
You'll also find books, accessories and other goodies for
the beginning to avid knitter.
Thanks for visiting me via this wonderful web and happy
knitting.
